About Author

When I was 20, I made what seemed like an insane decision: I dropped out of university in Novosibirsk, Siberia, and moved to Berlin with nothing but determination and terrible German.

I learned the language the hard way – by showing up, working, connecting, and making plenty of mistakes along the way. Eventually, I got into a German university and spent the next decade building a career in EdTech, specializing in UX research and research operations.

what I don't enjoy when I come back to Berlin.

Now, what I don't enjoy when I come back to Berlin.
Every time I come back to Berlin, I find one of my favourite spots gone and replaced with some fancy shit store.

Like I had with my hairdresser.
The place I went to had no appointments, come in and wait your turn, simple cut, affordable, done.

I went today - they are gone and replaced with the new place. It has an online booking system in place (the shop is empty while the new owner is explaining me all the services I dont need), costs 3 times as much.

What a pain.

It happened with my späti, nail salon and an Indian Restaurant and it keeps on happening. Can we slow down on this fancyfication of Berlin pretty please???

Where to find me
