“Keep the job even if you hate it.”

That’s the slippery slope into becoming resentful and adding zero value to the company.

Your manager will know. Your teammates will know. And don’t get me started on all the ways you’re not moving forward because you’re making decisions out of fear.

Situations like the one in this meme happen more often than you’d think. I’ve seen employees spiral so far into feeling unhappy and undervalued that they start saying inappropriate things, poisoning the culture around them.

There is one trait people on the “keep” list almost always have: they work with ownership. They care about the business as if it were their own. That doesn’t always mean working unpaid overtime or sacrificing your wellbeing. It means showing up without resentment.

If you can’t accept the reality of where you are and end up bringing more drama than value to the business, you’ll eventually find yourself on the “to fire” list.

And let’s be honest – that isn’t always the worst thing that can happen. We follow the “safe” route of finding opportunities. Sometimes it is time to flip this scenario and create your own opportunities.

Plan, calculate, negotiate, move on.

There are brighter opportunities out there.

If you’re navigating a layoff or thinking about your next move, don’t be a stranger 🚀
